Frequently
Asked Questions About Assisted Living
|
| What
is Assisted Living?
Assisted Living Facilities are designed for individuals
that need assistance with basic Activities of Daily
Living (ADL's) (i.e. bathing, toileting, self administration
of medications, etc.). Assisted Living or Assisted Living
Facilities (ALF) or Community Based Residential Facilities
(CBRF's) are usually designed for people who are not
able to live on their own, but do not yet need the level
of continuous nursing care that a nursing home offers.
Praire Home is a facility licensed and relgulated by
the State of Wisconsin.
Who lives in Assisted Living
facilities?
Currently, more than a million Americans live in an
estimated 20,000 assisted living residences. Assisted
living residents can be young or old, affluent or low
income, frail or disabled. A typical resident is a woman
in her eighties and is either widowed or single. Residents
may suffer from Alzheimer's disease or other memory
disorders. Residents may also need help with incontinence
or mobility.

What
about costs?
The average cost for a resident at Praire Home ranges
from $130-$175 per day. This is usually less than half
the cost of home health services and nursing home care.
Cost is tailored to individual needs and established
after a personal assessment conducted prior to move
in. At Prairie Home, the monthly rate is locked in for
the term of the individual stay and does not change,
even if the need for care increases.
Who pays the bill for assisted
living?
Depending on the nature of an individual's health insurance
program or long-term care insurance policy, costs may
be reimbursed. Government payments for assisted living
residences have been limited. Some state and county
agencies offer subsidies for services for low income
elders. Others may provide subsidies in the form of
an additional payment for those who receive Supplemental
Security Income or Medicaid. Medicaid waiver programs
may also be available to help pay for assisted living
services. Prairie Home accepts county funding. Please
contact us at (920) 969-0526 or mike@prairiehomeassistedliving.com
for a referral to the appropriate agency. We'd be happy
to help.
